What does nhis cover?

Can I add my children and aged parents? If yes how? If No. Do I need a different insurance for them? How do I get it?

Like I earlier said. GIFSHIP is a modified plan of the previous VCSHIP, which we are optimistic will be launched next month for Nigerians to enjoy easy and affordable access to healthcare. GIFSHIP has 3 categories which are for
1. Group : is for 10 persons above and note they all must come for registration at once. The price for that is 150k annual
2. Family: The principal with 3 dependents, price is 60k
3. Individual : The principal with 2 dependents, price is 45k

NHIS does not cover : Cosmetic surgery, HIV/TB, Sports Injury, Workplace Disaster, congenital surgeries….these are the much I can remember now

Yes you can add your children and parents if your on the Formal Sector coverage under NHIS. You can add up to 4 children, if is above 4, the 5th child will be registered as an Extra Dependent which you pay 9k annually. Same goes for your parents.
But if is under the private plan. We recommend you subscriber for the GIFSHIP Plan immediately is flagged off.

Thanks so much Njoku. So if you have two parents and your wife has two parents, and we both have 3 children, If I am the main applicant, it means I will register 3people as extra dependents. Is that right?

Yes it must be in group now. It was on the previous VCSHIP plan that it was 15k per person.
Individual person without any dependent will still pay 45k.

If you are the principal and you have 2 of your parents and your wife also has 2 of her parents making it 4 Biological Parents. Yes you are adding 4 Extra Dependents.
On the formal sector, you are entitled to add your biological parents and your wife biological parents only. No brothers, sisters, cousins etc
